Since 1991 when I had my first 'encounter' with crop circles* they never left my mind.

Every year I was looking forward to what that year's season might bring and a few times I was very happy to spend my holidays amidst the circles.

I have experienced strange things while I was there and that made the feeling that there is something strange going on only stronger.

So: in the first place a BIG THANKS to the circle makers, who-ever or what-ever they are.

In the second place a THANKS to the inventors of the Internet because without this medium the knowledge and photographs about crop circles would never have reached so many people.

A third BIG THANKS for all those researchers in the fields who's websites, reports, photographs and thoughts are a great source of inspiration.

IT'S ABOUT TIME

Sometimes I have published my findings on The Cropcircle Connector but most of the findings were kept in hibernation

on my hard disk.

Until now!

It's time to publish them on my own website: it's fun to do, it organises my thoughts and maybe somebody else likes it

and is as amazed as I am.

TO BELIEVE IS NOT WANTING TO KNOW WHAT IS TRUE

Another reason for starting this website is that I prefer to know (as far this is possible) something instead of believing it.

Beliefs are a restriction to knowledge.

All information about the crop circle phenomenon is biased and bias leads to incomplete knowledge.

So explaining all crop circles by saying that they are hoaxes or that they are made by aliens, human subconsciousness

or by hedgehogs is simply not enough. My doubt about how and what has unfortunately grown over the years.

I can say that I really do not know. The only thing I DO know is that they still fascinate me!

Saying all this does not mean that I don't have a bias and what this is I will explain now.

THE METHOD: WHERE AND WHY THERE?

For a few years now I copy-and-paste crop circle pictures in Google Earth.

I draw lines between them, measure the distances and see if there are any specialities to find and if there are 'rules'

according to which the crop circles are positioned.

These rules can for instance be mathematical or geometrical.

I want to know Where they are and if any spatial relationship exists  to other crop circles and if this relationship has a rule in it.

I let my intuition be the leading factor and want to be surprised.

CROP CIRCLE FACTION: FACTS + IMAGINATION

The title and subtitle of this website maybe needs some explanation.

Let's have a look at the meaning of the words 'fact' and 'faction'.

Fact

         1. Knowledge or information based on real occurrences

         2. a. Something demonstrated to exist or known to have existed

             b. A real occurrence; an event

             c. Something believed to be true or real

         3. A thing that has been done, especially a crime

         4. In law: the aspect of a case

Faction

          1.  Political faction: a group of people with a common political purpose

          2. Faction (in literature): a type of historical novel rooted in fact

All meanings of the word 'fact' apply to crop circles: they are real occurrences or events that exist or known to have existed    and are believed to be true or real and some see their occurence as a crime (mostly the farmers).

The world of crop circle researchers exists of individuals and groups which you could see as factions: groups of people with a common -in this case not political- purpose and every individual or group 'writes its own novel rooted in fact'.

I am doing the same thing: I collect facts and 'write a novel' based on these real occurrences.

PAREIDOLIA?

Often I have thought of myself as suffering a serious and incurable form of pareilodia or apophenia.

Pareidolia is a psychological phenomenon involving a vague and random stimulus (often an image or sound) being perceived as significant.

Common examples include seeing images of animals of faces in clouds, the man in the moon, hearing hidden messages on records when played in reverse.

Apophenia is the experience of seeing patterns or connections in random or meaningless data.

I think the term apophenia is in my case more apropriate: I have discovered patterns and connections in -at first sight random- data (but if they are really random and meaningless I dare not to say).

Critics (most of my friends and my wife are!) can say that I WANT to find those patterns so I deliberately choose

the crop circles where I have the biggest chance to find the data I want.

Maybe this is the case but if so I can assure you that I don't do it deliberately.

Therefore I invite everyone to check and recheck what I have done: you can do the same as I did and let me know if there is something wrong.

You are welcome to let me know what YOU think and for that you can use the contact page.

In the articles I use terms which may not be familiar to you.

On the Links page you will find websites with which will provide the necessary background information.
